James Ince & Sons (Umbrellas) Ltd
London E2For circa 200 years the Ince family have been manufacturing Umbrellas for both the home and overseas markets. As a company we are still within a stone’s throw of our first beginnings in Spitalfields, just around the corner form Liverpool Street Station, London. The Square Mile is still one of our biggest markets as we supply many professional firms and businesses which are based there. Obviously Umbrellas have changed a lot during this time both in appearance and in the way they are put together. Before the invention of the sewing machine in the 1850?s, Umbrellas were constructed completely by hand using materials such as ivory, cane, brass, whalebone and wood. An impressive Umbrella was a mark of status throughout the Victorian and Edwardian periods. It wasn’t until the advent of full mechanisation in the 1950?s that this attitude changed towards them and Umbrellas became to be considered as a more everyday item. The very early 20th century saw the creation of the first Golf and Garden Umbrellas, both of which have developed into very popular lines for the present day. We are still a small, family run business currently supplying an unrivalled range of products, due in part to our heritage and our experience. Unfortunately we are unable to show the full range on this website. So please call us if you do not see what you are looking for; and if we cannot supply the product we will be happy to point you in the right direction 16 companies found |
